Sticky Ham Sandwiches
Sticky Ham Sandwhices
I was skeptical about these, but they are SOOOO good, I could eat them once a week. Sweet, savory and cheesy. They are great for a quick weeknight meal or as a dish for a pot luck. While they are best hot out of the oven they are also pretty good cold.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon dry mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
- 1 package small sweet Hawaiian buns
- 1 pound sliced ham
- 1 pound sliced Swiss cheese
Instructions
- In a saucepan, bring butter, dry mustard, Worcestershire, brown sugar and poppy seeds to a boil in a saucepan. If you don’t have poppy seeds or don’t like them they can be omitted, but they add a nice little something I can’t describe.
- Lower heat and let simmer for a few minutes. Set aside.
- Keeping the buns connected slice buns in half (like a big hamburger bun) and assemble sandwiches by adding desired amounts of ham and cheese
- Place in a small baking dish (a snug fit is good) and pour sauce all over, using a spatula to make sure they are all coated. Cover with foil and let marinate in the fridge an hour or so, but if you are in a hurry they can go right into the oven
- When ready to bake, preheat oven to 325ºF.
- Bake covered for 10-15 minutes and uncovered for 10 minutes
